Dorset Art Glass

For the last 11 years I've immersed myself in the joy and creative potential of the wonderful medium of glass.

 

I have undertaken a variety of commissions - from small commemorative panels to  full sets of window or door panels and mixed media art installations - one recently winning an award.

 

Some of my inspiration comes from the natural world around me; organic forms and geometric patterns you find every day in nature, but also my clients' ideas and inspirations for their commission; the reasons why they chose a theme and what elements they want to include in their panels.  It is really wonderful to be allowed into their homes and to deliver something they truly love.

My favourite part of the process is choosing the glass colours - selecting just the right ones so that they sing out next to each other, I tend to use colour palettes that are bold yet simple.  I love how light passing through the glass transmits not only the colours onto nearby walls and objects but the textures as well - glass never fails to inspire me and I am in awe of its beauty.  One particular aspect of fusing glass I wonder at is the  magic that happens in the kiln,  the alchemy of some colours which cause them to change during the firing process to become more vibrant or even totally different, it all brings the artwork to life and I never tire of it.
